Pizza Drama

Menomale, hoping to open soon on 12th Street, describes themselves as:

"founded by an Italian born Maestro Pizzaiolo (master pizza maker) named Ettore Rusciano and a self proclaimed beer nerd named Leland Estes. The two share their years of experience in the culinary industry to bring a modern perspective on traditional cuisine.
Step inside Menomale and you are greeted by a hand built 6,000 lb wood-fired oven. This traditional centerpiece cooks a pizza at 900°, giving the pizza a unique flavor and texture. Featuring only ingredients from the Campania region of Italy we make pizza the way it was historically intended. Pair your pizza amongst 20 craft beers on draft and a growing bottle list curated from around the world. We proudly feature a variety of exquisite Italian wines in company with an array of simple spirits."

Sound delicious?  A handful of residents have recently voiced opposition to the establishment's pending liquor licence, for reasons not yet entirely clear.  A recent post at Prince of Petworth summarizes the drama nicely.  Hopefully, it won't be long before we're reminiscing about this disagreement over some fine Italian wine at 2711 12th Street NE.
