Chuck Brown Park

Mayor Vincent C. Gray has submitted the “Chuck Brown Park Designation Act of 2012” to the DC Council for approval. The bill would designate the western portion of Langdon Park, between 18th and 20th Streets NE in Ward 5, as “Chuck Brown Park.”

“Chuck Brown, Go-Go music and the District of Columbia are inextricably linked to each other, and it’s appropriate that the ‘Godfather of Go-Go’ should be honored by the city that embraced him and his music,” Mayor Gray said. “I promised at his memorial service that we would name a park in his honor, and that it would symbolize Chuck – a place where there is action, people, traffic; the sounds of a city. A park where chuck’s music can be played and where people can enjoy themselves – as they always did while listening to Chuck Brown perform.”

Surviving members of the Brown Family thanked Mayor Gray for the honor. “We would like to thank Mayor Gray for this great honor and encourage the DC Council to pass this legislation,” they said, in a joint statement. “We pray the park will be a place where all people can come together to celebrate the things that were most important to Chuck and his fans: family, life, peace and love

Please join the Langdon Dog Park Association (LDPA), your neighbors, and their furry pals this Saturday 11am - 1pm for the park's Summer kick off party at the Langdon Dog Park, 2901 20th Street NE, between the recreation center and the pool.

* The Washington Humane Society will have their adoption van with adoptable animals, as well as information on their programs and services (adoption, fostering, volunteering, spay/neuter, feral cats, cruelty, humane education, etc.).

* The Washington Animal Rescue League will also be at the park with their truck with adoptable dogs and Dr. Jan Rosen, their medical director, for "Ask the Vet."

* Spot on Training will have an "Ask the Trainer" table, and will set up two doggie pools to serve as a doggie cooling station. They will also bring goodie bags with treats, sponsor a "How Many Bones" contest for $25 off a training class, and have material with dog park etiquette tips.

The LDPA is an all-volunteer organization, having no paid staff/board members. Funding is provided by memberships and contributions/ donations from the general public. Board members will be on hand at Saturday's event to explain how you can help the park continue to be a success.
