EMPOWERING WOMEN TO BECOME AGENTS OF CHANGE

THE D.C. FEDERATION OF DEMOCRATIC WOMEN ANNOUNCES ITS 2012 CALL TO CONVENTION:  “EMPOWERING WOMEN TO BECOME AGENTS OF CHANGE”

The D.C. Federation of Democratic Women (DCFDW) will hold its Annual Convention on Saturday, March 24 from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm at the John A. Wilson Building at 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW in the 4th Floor Council Chambers. The Convention, with the theme, “Empowering Women to Become Agents of Change,” will focus on four pivotal issues that have a broad appeal to all Democratic women, residents of the District of Columbia and the general public. Following greetings by city officials, Members of the Council, and Ms. Sylvia Roxana of the Latina Caucus, the guest speakers are as follows:

Workforce and Job Dev. Lisa Mallory, Director, DC Dept of Employment Services
Health Care and Wellness Tony Young, Exec. Director, Community Education Group
Violence Against Women Karma Cottman, Exec. Director DC Coalition Against
Domestic Violence
Voting Rights LaToia Jones, Senior Associate, American Fed.of Teachers & Ifeoma Ike, Esq., CBCF Fellow, House Judiciary Committee

According to DCFDW President Estelle Mathis Lloyd, “This election year, we want to remind women of the enormous power they possess and of their ability to make a resounding impact in their lives and the lives of residents in their communities. The convention topics will explore how women can make a critical difference in the course of history – both locally and nationally.”

We are encouraging the general public to attend the convention, because it is essential to galvanize members of the community into action and involve them in making transformational changes in our families and communities. They are invited to participate in exploring the convention’s core issues which will also provide the backdrop and preliminary training for our annual “DCFDW Women in Blue Advocacy Day” at the Wilson Building on March 29th.

Expert speakers will facilitate the discussions of the core issue. Participants are asked to come with lots of ideas and questions. A continental breakfast will be served. To RSVP or for more information, please contact:
