Brooklanders for DC Statehood
An invitation from Josh on 13th, posted on the Brookland listserve:
"On April 16th, DC Emancipation Day, come and join members of the BNCA's Statehood Committee and our neighbors from around the city under the umbrella group DC Statehood Alliance for a lobby day on Capitol Hill. We'll be targeting specific members of the House of Representatives asking them to sign-on as cosponsors to the Statehood Bill (H.R. 265, the New Columbia Admission Act). To date there are 19 cosponsors on the bill and BNCA Statehood Committee members can take credit for the direct lobbying that led to 5 of those member signing onto the bill. We hope that you will join us in lobbying to ensure that members of Congress and their staff learn that the desire of District citizens is to become full and complete citizens and Statehood is the only way to achieve that. So after taking part in the District's Emancipation Day celebration in the morning join us on the Hill to make the case against Taxation Without Representation as it is also the day before
taxes are due.
"For more information on our work or to sign up for the lobby day please feel free to contact me offline: joshburch1@yahoo.com We'll have a meeting before the lobby day to break up into teams, review team assignments, and go over talking points on April 14th."
