For DC residents, the skeletons of police call boxes are a familiar sight. But how many of us know their history? Or how police actually used them?
In an age before cell phones or reliable radios, these boxes were a patrolman's direct link to the station. In the video below, Sgt. Nicholas Breul, Historian for the DC Metropolitan Police Department, gives an excellent presentation on police call box history:
