Adopt a Tree with Your Smartphone

Use your smartphone to adopt a baby tree! Residents can scan QR codes on tags of newly planted street trees to enroll in the city's Canopy Keepers program.

The District Department of Transportation is piloting the tree QR tags in Adams Morgan, Brookland, Fairlawn and Tenleytown.

Tree adopters will receive a free watering tub to place around the tree and fill up once a week. DDOT waters all the trees periodically, but relies on the public to provide weekly care.

Residents can also adopt trees by calling 311 or submitting an application online.

DDOT planted 3,900 new trees this year. View this season's planting map through a Mozilla web browser.
